Databyte BV is a Dutch IT service solutions company that provides IT services to companies of all sizes in all locations. The company wanted to offer even their smallest clients their full services at an affordable price and therefore looked into remote monitoring software to be able to provide an efficient service to their clients without having to visit their offices, thereby cutting down on costs for both them and their clients. They therefore looked into GFI MAX RemoteManagement which proved to be the most cost-effective and efficient solution for Databyte and for their clients.

Challenges

Databyte BV is a Dutch IT service solutions company that deals in both the provision of IT services as well as an IT retailer selling hardware. The company provides IT support to various companies of various sizes and wanted a managed services solution that would allow them to offer the same high level of service to even their smallest clients who might not be able to afford full-time IT personnel.

“The level of service varies from selling hardware to managing and servicing the complete network” said Tim van Zeggeren, Hartbewaking specialist of the company. “We wanted to offer our smaller clients a solution with which their network and hardware was monitored but without the cost of having a full-time IT professional on location.”

Databyte tried some of the solutions that were available on the market but found that they had several problems ranging from installation issues to reporting capabilities. They then decided to try GFI MAX RemoteManagement which resulted in being the ideal choice for their particular set-up and their client base.

GFI MAX RemoteManagement is a systems monitoring, asset tracking and client reporting toolset designed especially for IT support companies and managed service providers. GFI MAX RemoteManagement allows support companies to monitor all of the ‘live’ IT systems at their customers’ sites, offering proactive alerting to issues relating to disk space, backup, failed RAID disks, website downtime, AV updates and more.

“Before GFI MAX RemoteManagement we used MOM 2005. This program was used for about two years but we had a lot of problems (no clear reports and difficulty to program new rules) which made us switch to SCOM 2007. This program worked fine, but it was very difficult to install and configure the agents at remote locations without buying certificates for a trusted connection.”

Implementation

Having already tried other solutions that did not meet their needs, Databyte BV realized that “because of the costs, GFI MAX RemoteManagement offered an easy to use, web-based solution” that was perfect for their clients’ needs.

Databyte had decided to try GFI MAX RemoteManagement for two main reasons: “The cost per server for one, and the ability to create easy-to-understand reports for our clients was a good second reason.”

The next step was to convince their clients that GFI MAX RemoteManagement was the way forward for them. GFI MAX RemoteManagement gave Databyte the “the chance to convince customers that changes had to be made to improve performance or reliability of the network” and that is did not necessarily mean increased costs, infrastructure changes or new hardware.

Benefits

“The GFI MAX RemoteManagement agent is easy to install and easy to configure.” Its pricing system is also a major contender when it comes to other IT solutions in its field.

The easy-to-use Dashboard helped Databyte provide an efficient service to their clients by informing them about problems that they had with their IT systems before both Databyte and the client were even aware of them.

“The results that were seen were various. Some clients didn’t have any problems; others had a lot of problems we didn’t know about. These were easy to find through the dashboard” said Mr. van Zeggeren.

Target Reached

“We offered it as a new service so there were no pre-set targets we had to reach although we did manage to go from 150 to 312 servers in 6 months.”
