LANguard brings secure browsing & downloading to ISA Server users
London, UK, 4 June 2001 - GFI has launched LANguard Content Filtering & Anti-virus for ISA Server, Microsoft Corp.'s enterprise firewall and Web cache server.
LANguard was built from the ground up to work with ISA Server. As a result, installation and administration are easy: No dedicated machine is required, and there is no need to make any changes to the network configuration. LANguard hooks in ISA Server as a Web filter and can leverage features such as alerts, reporting and so on, that are already found in ISA Server. Additionally, all LANguard administration and configuration is integrated with the ISA Server 2000 configuration through Microsoft Management Console (MMC).
"We are pleased with GFI's support of ISA Server 2000," said Nevet Basker, director of business development for ISA Server at Microsoft. "The implementation of GFI's anti-virus, content filtering and Internet access control technology on ISA Server will help accelerate the adoption of secure e-commerce applications. GFI's support and approach to business security will help customers get the most from their ISA Server."
"Just as Microsoft Exchange Server revolutionized corporate email, GFI expects that ISA server will do the same for corporate security and Internet access," said Nick Galea, GFI CEO. "As a result, LANguard Content Filtering & Anti-virus builds on ISA Server's ability to help organizations protect, accelerate and control their network access by bringing content checking, virus filtering and Internet access control functions to this new Microsoft platform, resulting in a highly scalable and integrated way of implementing corporate security."
LANguard's anti-virus module scans incoming traffic, such as HTTP and FTP downloads, and checks them for viruses. The product also automatically downloads virus updates whenever necessary to keep up-to-date. Simultaneously, LANguard's content filtering module can quarantine suspicious file types that could contain harmful content. This way, users can still download the files they need, but these can be checked for malicious content before being delivered.
For added defence, LANguard protects against present and future Word macro viruses. If it detects a Microsoft Word or Excel file that contains a macro, it automatically disables the macro. This dispels any worry about users downloading documents that contain Word macros, which could potentially harbour a virus. LANguard also enables real time monitoring of all Internet connections so that the administrator can view what connections are open and to which web or FTP sites.
A further advantage is that LANguard can prevent unproductive use of the Internet at the workplace by checking for keywords in URLs and Web pages to determine whether a site is appropriate or not. LANguard can detect specific keywords and even combinations of keywords in Internet traffic - for example, if a user is reading a Web page with a certain keyword, or doing a Search for that keyword. This means that searches for objectionable material are blocked without needing to prevent access to an entire search engine site.
LANguard is very cost-effective compared to other content filtering, anti-virus and Internet access control products. Pricing starts at US$395 for 25 users. For more product information, visit http://www.gfi.com/languard/lanccfeatures.htm.
