New version integrates with Outlook and SMTP/POP3 mail servers
London, UK, 12th April 1999 – GFI, leading developer of fax, workflow and e-mail add-on software, today announced the new version of FAXmaker for Networks/SMTP 7.0. Apart from including important new enterprise features such as remote fax server & user administration and remote viewing of fax server status, FAXmaker is now the first fax solution to support the Business fax field in Outlook without requiring Exchange Server. This means that users can now keep all their fax and e-mail contacts in one address book instead of having to maintain two separate address books. The new version also includes a new API toolkit using Comm objects, enhanced document rendering, Word mail merge support and support for Lotus Notes.
In the new version, users can simply choose the business fax field from a contact in their Outlook Contact list to send a fax, enabling them to keep one central address book for all contacts. While before only Exchange fax connectors offered this degree of integration, FAXmaker for Networks/SMTP now offers this facility without forcing companies to invest in Exchange Server.
Support for fax mail merge using Microsoft Office mail merge feature FAXmaker now also includes word macros, enabling users to create personalized fax mailings by using the powerful mail merge helper of Microsoft Word.
FAX gateway for SMTP/POP3 servers FAXmaker for Networks/SMTP 7.0 also includes a full SMTP FAX gateway, offering users the possibility to use an e-mail client, such as Outlook, Notes or Netscape, to send and receive faxes. Furthermore, users can now use either an email client or the FAXmaker client on the same network.
"FAXmaker for Networks/SMTP 7.0 re-establishes FAXmaker's lead as the industry’s easiest to use and most affordable fax server" says Nick Galea, managing director of GFI. "While FAXmaker’s many new enterprise features and integration with mail servers such as Lotus Notes make it suitable for larger corporates, FAXmaker for Networks 7.0 is also an ideal solution for small to medium sized businesses because it offers all the advantages of Outlook integration without requiring Exchange server."
Advanced API using Comm objects The new version of FAXmaker includes an advanced API toolkit based on Comm objects. Using Comm objects, any application can be programmatically fax enabled. Samples for Microsoft Word, Access, Visual Basic and Excel are included in the product. Other new features are header and footer texts, advanced modem options and support for more ISDN devices.
FAX gateway for Lotus Notes FAXmaker for Networks/SMTP 7.0 fully integrates with Lotus Notes, enabling users to send and receive faxes from their Notes clients. To address faxes, the familiar Notes @FAX addressing can be used.
FAXmaker for Networks/SMTP 7.0 will be released this month. Evaluation versions will be available for download from: http://www.gfi.com/pages/files.htm. Pricing starts at $195 for a 5 user and 1 fax line Small business version.
